The situation that those of us on Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) cannot be understated. It is dire. It is beyond crisis. We have had a below poverty level income for decades, but in the last 4 years it has been made phenomenally worse.
Since 2018 we have had one increase of 1.5% in October 2018. Since then, we have had nothing while inflation has increased by at least 11%, and has been increasing sharply each month in 2022.
This election, we have been asking all parties to #DoubleODSPNow. We can barely live on the $1169 that a single person gets on ODSP. Every month that inflation increase, we have less money. Fewer groceries we can buy, fewer bills we can pay. And for many, the decision to chose MAID becomes reeler as dealing with pain, disability and poverty can be too much.
UPDATE 5/9/2022: We now have PCs offering 5% increase (while inflation is 5.6% so we are still sliding backwards) , The Green Party lead out of the gate with a plan to immediately increase ODSP 100%. Then the NDP released their platform with a 20% increase in 2022 and studying how to increase it over the next few years. The Liberals announced 20% over 2 years. 10% in 2022 and 10% in 2023.
The stark reality is that anything less than #DoubleODSPNow will keep us in severe poverty.
We need every to get involved and get each and every candidate and party to commit to #DoubleODSPNow. Our lives are literally at stake here.

The odsp amount must be increased and now! How do we treat humans so poorly just because they have a disability.
Yes, life is hard for everyone these days but for most there is hope for change, a better job or
raise or even to earn tips. For those disabled and trapped in bodies that don’t work or bodies trapped with minds that don’t function they have no hope.
Our government chooses to humiliate them further, take away their pride and then punish them IF they make any effort to make even a small amount of money at all, because the government says
ok you can make $2.00 but out of that $2.00 we will deduct a $1.00 from your cheque, and we will take another chunk of your self esteem, you know as interest. Well why doesn’t each member of our elected representitives tie one arm, the predominate one behind their back for 1 week 24/7. Then make a report on what they think it’s worth a month to have help to use the bathroom, comb their hair, cook a meal, get dressed etc. Then the next week tie back a leg or wear a covering over their eyes and experience a drop of life as a disabled person.Do it in a $479.00 apt or on the street.
Yes addiction is a disability and I’ll bet they are all addicted to food, or water or have to have their coffee. Well give it all up and live it…oh and maybe their decent private clean toilet and toiley paper, you know the basic stuff.
Watch a young person with parkinsons’ or depression
etc live one day and then try it.
You think by donating your $300.00 suits or your contribution to food banks or
thinking about them on your boat or in your car or wait mentioning them in a campaign speech speech makes you just awesome and wonderful cuz ya all know words!!! Big deal, when you don’t help and encourage disabled people the same as the ones you play golf with…..then you have done nothing and your platforms mean nothing…..all you say you stand for is worthless.
Give disabled people back their dignity and don’t look now but your lives or a member of your families lives could change instantly and then you could become them. No one is safe from the unexpected not even you in government, so have the same respect as you’ll expect should you or someone you know becomes “one of the disabled” community.
We are not even surviving on odsp. It needs to be doubled and even then its not even close to what people make on minimum wage but its a start. I got hit from behind walking on sidewalk by a car and now at 34 im pretty much bedridden. Please help us.
